Silverlake on Saturday

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Sara & I have more in common than just our love for Pockets – we also share a love for coffee!!

Thankfully, we can enjoy our 2 favorite things just around the block from us at Gilly’s & Intelligentsia! These neighboring shops make for the perfect Saturday in Silverlake with a delightful leisurely cup o’ joe & a beautiful peruse through the planted Island arrangements. Luckily, Sara & I always find time in our week for this very special tête-à-tête! ;)

Check out our good friends Gilly, his dog Peg & their amazing store!

A Woolly Debut at RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

A discerning nose indeed! (image via Daily Mail)

This week London is celebrating gardening, plants and all that blooms at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show. It’s hardly an exaggeration to call this the Super Bowl, err World Cup of flowers! Gardens of all varieties are on display, and I was really impressed by The Daily Telegraph’s award winning garden!

We’re so excited and proud that our woolly friend Felicity of Garden Beet has installed some gorgeous Living Walls at the show using Woolly Pockets! The garden, by Stephen Myburgh Designs, has a playful gypsy theme, with his striking hanging copper swings as a central focal point.

The pockets create a vivid and striking contrast for the swings, while using the least amount of space. We wish we could be there to see it in person! What an awesome garden! We hope you’re enjoying your garden. You never know when the Queen will stop by! Happy Gardening!

Miami gets Woolly with a Splendid Living Wall

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Miami just got a bit greener last week. Our partner in Woolly, FosterPlants, just installed a lush living wall at the new Splendid store in the Aventura Mall! In just one day, FosterPlants was able to turn a bare wall into a gorgeous and verdant oasis of living plants! The modular Wally system makes for a simple installation process, with instantaneous results! Here’s a little slideshow of the step by step process:

You can also read a detailed report about the installation at Steve’s blog.

Splendid was one of the first retailers to install a Woolly Pocket Living Wall in their Los Angeles flagship store. They saw how a living wall transforms their space and creates the right mood for their clients and employees! What a breath of fresh air, literally!

Pockets on the Porch

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Alison just shared with us her awesome DIY pocket installation on her porch!

Our porch is so not even close to done, but just wanted to thank your company. I’ve been trying to find a way to break up this brick wall on our porch since we moved in three years ago. We’re still implementing plans that will hopefully be done in the next couple of weeks, but wow, the planters make such a difference. And were so easy to both hang and to plant. They’ve been up three weeks or so now and are doing beautifully.

Thank you!
Alison

Great Job Alison! Congratulations on a beautiful start to your porch improvement project! You really prove how easy it is to achieve dramatic effects with Woolly Pocket Living Walls. The layout artfully plays off the pattern of the brick, which looks awesome when contrasted by living plants!

Do you have a Woolly project that you’d like to share with us? We’d love to hear from you! Reach us on Facebook, Twitter or Email!

The Brown Thumb Chronicles: I Kill Plants (…often)

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Its mildly embarrassing to be a brown thumb when you work at Woolly Pocket.

Its with great regret I tell you that just last month a tender succulent died while in my very own care. It took me awhile to come out. It just sort of happened at a staff meeting – I blurted it out while Jeff looked on in horror.  Everyone sympathized. Sara even related to my plight! It was then that I realized I was not alone & instead of crying about it I wanted to figure out what I was doing wrong so I too could have family of healthy happy plants in my house!

Every week I am going to be documenting my struggles with plants & attempts to have a little bit of Stephanie’s green thumb rub off on my own brown ones.

I know I’m not alone. I know you’ve killed plants before too. Or, maybe you’re too afraid you’ll kill one to even try! So, I think we should do this together. Tell me your plant gripes, suggestions, most feared species, whatever – I’ll tackle them! Let’s do it together!!

Art & Sustainability Pop-up in Los Angeles

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Last week, SHFT opened their art gallery pop-up in Downtown Los Angeles. Woolly Pocket was there with Wallys and Islands! They perfectly complemented the sustainable yet design oriented vibe of the art and products on display. The exhibition is thoughtful and beautiful. All the artwork echos the theme of sustainability in one way or another. Here’s a sample of what’s on view. Enjoy!

Peacock Pockets Debut at the Picnic

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Earlier this week, Woolly Pocket had the honor of installing a living wall and living chandelier for New York Restoration Project‘s Spring Picnic! The fundraiser was in support of Bette Midler’s nonprofit dedicated to restoring and expanding green spaces in New York! It was the perfect opportunity to debut our newest color pocket, Peacock Blue!

A Living Chandelier floats above the stage!

The Living Wall looked amazing with flashes of blue peeking between the plants!

Even the podium was brought to life with Pockets!

Calming Plants at the Dentist

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Plants seem to have a natural calming effect on people. We’re certain the patients visiting Madison dentist Jody Schilling, DDS, SC are benefitting from the recent addition of some beautiful orchids to her office. A beautiful arrangement of 2 orchids rests comfortably in a Wally on a wall while a Tina holds another pair of orchids for patients to enjoy at the reception desk. Chuck Acker of Orchids Garden Centre & Nursery did a fine job with the installation and arrangement. Well Done!

Sachin Tuli, husband of Jody and the photographer, writes to us about their Woolly improvements:

We are really happy with the way the way the orchids are looking in both the Tina Island as well as in the Wally One! We think they are better than art–so beautiful, interesting and calming.

Right on Sachin! The plants look so bright and happy in their pockets! Thanks for sharing your story!

A Woolly Good Morning in New York! Today’s front page of the New York Daily News has a great writeup of Woolly Pocket!

And over on the West Coast, Apartment Therapy San Francisco profiles the beautiful home of Julie and James. They dramatically improved the view from their kitchen window by planting 3 Wallys on a paint peeled wall. What a great effect with minimal effort! This is a great example of an easy project for people living in small spaces to add some greenery into their lives! Have a Woolly Weekend!
